In the 90s the Soviet Union was officially an atheistic country. You could not believe in God, it was against the government. If you believed in God you would be deprived of all your career possibilities, you would be nothing in the society. If you preach something about God you would be put in prison, because it was a crime against communism.

When I first read "Bhagavad-gita" I felt that the whole new world was opening to me. In "Bhagavad-gita" I saw a very rational explanation of what the world is all about, based on the premise that there is God. I was trained as a scientist, and scientists don’t so easily believe things, they are trained to think rationally. "Bhagavad-gita" is a rational and intellectually satisfying worldview with God in the center.

The most obvious result of the Hare Krisna mantra is that you chant and chant and chant, you don’t get tired, the sound of this mantra is very pleasing, it gives you a very nice experience. To get the full experience of the potency of this sound, you need some purity of the heart. Maha mantra is a precious gift which we have, so we should value this opportunity to chant the Hare Krisna mantra.
